چکیده

results rbp4 levels in obese children (19 482.9 ± 3 302.2 pg/ml) were higher than those found in the lean control group (14 295.68 ± 2 381.3 pg/ml) (p < 0.05). in the obese patients, rbp4 levels showed a significant correlation with the grade of fatty liver and bmi (p < 0.05). conclusions it was found that the level of rbp4 had a strong correlation with the severity of fatty liver. therefore, rbp4 may be considered as a useful, noninvasive predictive biomarker of intrahepatic lipid content in obese children prior to using radiological investigations. in particular, abdominal sonography, for the evaluation of intrahepatic lipid content in obese patients, as the sensitivity of a sonography is decreased due to the increased thickness of the abdominal wall as a result of fat deposits. patients and methods this case-control, double-blind study involved 51 obese children aged between five and 17 years as the case group. in addition, 35 healthy lean children with no liver problems were selected as the control group. plasma rbp4 (using an elisa), serum triglycerides (tg), low-density-lipoproteins (ldl), high-density-lipoproteins (hdl), total-cholesterol (chol), and body mass index (bmi) were measured. grading the severity of the fatty liver condition was done by an expert radiologist in the case group. background the prevalence of obesity and its related comorbidities, such as fatty liver, in children is increasing worldwide mostly due to changes in diet and life-style. many serological markers have been suggested for screening of fatty liver but investigations for finding more reliable factors are still in progress. objectives this study aimed to investigate the correlation between the level of retinol binding protein-4 (rbp4) in the serum and sonographic grading of fatty-liver severity in obese iranian children.

Regulation of retinol‐binding protein 4 and retinol metabolism in fatty liver disease

Vitamin A refers to a spectrum of retinoid compounds (retinol, retinoic acid, and retinaldehyde) with important functions in different tissues, including the retina and skin. Retinoids regulate metabolic pathways through binding to two nuclear hormone receptors: retinoic acid receptor and retinoid X receptor. In humans, approximately 80% of the body reservoir of vitamin A is stored in the liver...

Liver retinol transporter and receptor for serum retinol-binding protein (RBP4).

Vitamin A (retinol) is absorbed in the small intestine, stored in liver, and secreted into circulation bound to serum retinol-binding protein (RBP4). Circulating retinol may be taken up by extrahepatic tissues or recycled back to liver multiple times before it is finally metabolized or degraded. Liver exhibits high affinity binding sites for RBP4, but specific receptors have not been identified...

The Effect of 8 Weeks Interval Exercises and Vitamin D Supplementation on Plasma Levels of Dipeptidyl peptidase-4 and Retinol Binding Protein 4 in Overweight Women

Abstract Over weight is one of the most important public health concerns and the most common fat metabolism disorder in humans the purpose of this study was to compare the effect of eight weeks of interval training and vitamin D intake on DPP4 and RBP4 plasma levels of overweight with mean age of 39.92±4.15 , height 159.25±3.8 cm weight 72.73 kg /m2 in this study , 40 subjects were selected pur...

Macrophages are novel sites of expression and regulation of retinol binding protein-4 (RBP4).

Obesity is linked to a low-level chronic inflammatory state that may contribute to the development of associated metabolic complications. Retinol-binding protein 4 (RBP4) is an adipokine associated with parameters of obesity including insulin resistance indices, body mass index, waist circumference, lipid profile, and recently, with circulating inflammatory factors. Due to the infiltration of a...

Association of Serum Retinol Binding Protein 4 with Atherogenic Dyslipidemia in Morbid Obese Patients

Retinol binding protein 4 (RBP4) is an adipokine that may contribute to the development of insulin resistance. However, how this adipokine is affected and its possible involvement in lipid metabolism in obese patients with varying degrees of insulin resistance is yet to be determined. A total of 299 middle-aged morbid obese patients (BMI>40 kg/m(2)) were divided in euglycemic, metabolic syndrom...
